As Table 9 shows,
the other sectors increased.' The
Northeast Sector gained the most
population with an estimated increase of
57,311 (a 93.3% increase in ten years).
Growth in the Northeast Sector was
greater than the combined growth of all
other sectors between 1970 and 1980.
The Northwest Sector increased in
population by 23.7% between 1970 and
1980. The Southwest Sector experienced
only a 5.24% increase in the last ten
years. The Southeast Sector ranked
second in growth with a 53.53% gain.

The sector growth trends established
during the past few years are expected to

continue. Population projections for the
Year 2000 indicate a slight decline in the
Central Sector and continued expansion in
the Northeast Sector. The Southeast and
Southwest Sectors are expected to
increase by 58.1 % and 84.6%,
respectively, by the Year 2000. The
Northwest Sector is projected to
experience the most growth between 1980
and 2000 with a 102.1 % gain. Sectors are
delineated on Map 2.

27

I
I
I
I
I
,I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
