<br />g., <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />Overland Trail Tour <br /> <br />Discover why this region and the trail <br />itself are so significant in <br />Northeast Colorado's history. <br /> <br />ROUND TRIP MILEAGE: 360 from Den- <br />ver, 110 from Julesburg, 110 from Sterling. <br />The Northeastern corner of the state <br />claims the only Pony Express station (A) in <br />Colorado - the monument can be seen just <br />east of Ovid. Julesburg's Fort Sedgwick <br />Depot Museum (B) offers excellent histori- <br />cal displays. Near Sedgwick, watch for buf- <br />falo herds grazing at Price Ranch (C). In <br />Crook, stop by no less than two historical <br />stage stations: the Lillian Springs (D) and <br />the Spring Hill (E), and the local museum. <br />Sterling offers a multitude of attractions, <br />including the fascinating Overland Trail <br />Museum (F) and the antique steam locomo- <br />tives (G). A mini-tour of the community <br />reveals eight churches, private homes, and <br />government buildings registered as Na- <br /> <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />The Historical Tour will take you <br />through vast wildlife areas and feature many <br />historical sites. Take a drive along Highway <br />71 north of Brush. It will take you through <br />both Cottonwood (A) and Elliott (B) State <br />Wildlife Areas. Along the way, watch for <br />the Texas-Montana Trail (C) and Beaver <br />Creek Station (D). His- <br />torical stops along this route include the <br />Trails End School House (E), the Junction <br />House State Stations (F), and a two-story <br />sod house (G). The last part of the tour is the <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />Pawnee Pioneer Trails Historic and Scenic <br />byway. It will take you by Riverside South <br />Platte River. You'll see historic Rainbow <br />Bridge (1), considered to be an engineering <br />wonder of its time and at the Old Fort Mor- <br />gan Historical Marker (K). ~ <br />
