lines and following generaUy the subbasin boundaries. In
general, the nomenclature of subbasin and subregional
areas is lhe same, for all practical purposes. Figure 9
shows the eight subregions in relation to the corres-
ponding subbasins.
The Missouri River and majur water control
structures thereon functionally provide many services to
the adjoining subbasins, such as recreation. fish and
wildlife, and municipal water supply, which are included

in the eight subbasin analyses. However, there are
characteristics of the Missouri River controlled flow
regimen that provide other important services such as
irrigation, navigation. flood control, water quality
control. hydroelectric power production, and regulated
outflow from the basin. Where appropriate. the Missouri
River. from the head of Fort Peck Reservoir to the
mouth, is analyzed separately to show its potential to
provide these services.
