The immediate area around the dam, <br />including an approximately 1/2-mile stretch of the Salt River <br />below the structure, has been closed to the public and will remain <br />closed until after modification work has been completed. <br /> <br />DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS <br /> <br />NON-INDIAN -- Reclamatjon is participating in construction of <br />10 distribution systems. Three of these systems -- Chaparral City <br />Water Company, and Tonopah and Harquahala Valley Irrigation <br />Districts -- are essentially complete, and they have been <br />transferred to the entities for operation and maintenance (O&M). <br />Constructjon continues on the Hohokam and Queen <br />Creek/Chandler Heights Citrus/San Tan irrigation district systems, <br />on portions of the New Magma, Central Arizona, and Maricopa- <br />Stanfield irrigation district systems, and on the multjple-user <br />Santa Rosa Canal. Portions of the Central Arizona and New Magma <br />systems have also been transferred to the districts for D&M. <br />The first 32 miles of the Santa Rosa Canal are complete and <br />delivering water, and this portion of the system has been <br />transferred to O&M status. Construction on the final 31 mjles of <br />the canal is 97 percent complete, and initial filling of completed <br />sections is underway. Deliverjes from the second half of the canal <br />wjll begin early this summer. <br /> <br />INDIAN -- Construction of the Ak Chin distribution system <br />continues. Initial CAP water deljveries to the communjty will <br />occur later this summer. <br /> <br />WATER SERVICE SU8CONTRACTING <br /> <br />MUNICIPAL AND INDUSTRIAL -- M&I water service subcontracts <br />have been signed by 51 entities. The signings total 503,181 acre- <br />feet of water, or 78.6 percent of the 640,000 acre-foot M&I <br />allocatjon. Five entities, with just over 3 percent of the M&I <br />allocation, have formally declined subcontracts; three entities <br />have been offered contracts, but have received extensions; and 23 <br />entities have yet to be offered contracts. <br /> <br />AGRICULTURE -- Ten entities have signed water servjce <br />subcontracts. This represents 70.70 percent of the water for this <br />category. Seven entities, with 16.85 percent of the allocatjon, <br />have declined to sign subcontracts; three entities have been <br />offered contracts but have not yet signed; and three entities have <br />not yet been offered contracts. <br /> <br />INDIAN -- Nine of the ten Indian tribes allocated CAP water <br />have signed contracts.
