Walker <br />Deputy Director <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />Members, CWCB <br /> <br />FROM: Bill McDonald <br /> <br />DATE: January 10, 1986 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Agenda Item 14c , January 16-17, 1986, Board Meeting-- <br />Amended Authorization for Closed Basin Project . <br /> <br />Introduction: <br /> <br />The Board's role in development of the Closed Basin Project <br />has been to acquire the State Land Board's land needed for <br />project purposes and to contribute funds for recreation <br />enhancement, As a master plan for recreation and for fish and <br />wildlife is being jointly prepared by the Division of wildlife <br />and Parks and Outdoor Recreation, it has become clear that <br />initial estimates of costs are below the current projected <br />costs, <br /> <br />The current proposal for recreation facilities is at a <br />reduced but fully satisfactory level of develo?ment, The <br />estimated reimbursable cost to the state is $380,250, I support <br />that level of expenditure and am convinced that any further <br />reduction would impair anticipated recreational use, <br /> <br />You will .recall that the authorized expenditure for the <br />Closed Basin Project in SB 537 (1979) is $500,000, If you accept <br />the recreational costs of $380,250, then the authorization would <br />be exceeded as follows: <br /> <br />land acquisition in project area $134,640 <br /> <br />land acquisition for Russell Lakes 61,200 <br /> <br />State share of recreational <br />development (estimate) 380,250 <br /> <br />$576,090 <br /> <br />702 <br />agendaj14c <br />
