32

>>PRICE-SAN RAFAEL RIVERS, UTAH

Hydrosalinity Analysis

A water and salt budget accounting system for irrigation was
developed by SCS and USBR in 1988 and 1989. The system was
developed on a computer spread sheet. Salt and water budgets are
displayed simply and contain diversion, canal seepage, farm
delivery, onfarm deep percolation, ground water inflow, and
groundwater outflow and the associated salinity. The winter water
supply for livestock delivered through the irrigation system is
also included. With a few relatively minor modifications the
water and salt budgeting procedure could be used in other units.
SCS documented their concurrence of the procedure by a letter
dated 1-9-89. USBR on 1-30-89. Discussion of the procedure with
the salinity Forum Work Group has been very favorably received.

Spreadsheet documentation is available from Dave Trueman, USBR,
Salt Lake City, Utah. Example work sheets for the Price River
and San Rafael River watersheds follow:
