Year 2 aod 3

If the flow regLrne of the Price River follows/parallels the yea~ 1 flow
regime, only the stations established during year 1 will be sampLed wLth
the methods described above. If the flow regime of the Price River is
different (e.g. highe~ or lower peak flows, longer or sho~ter duration
af peak flows) than the flc~g present during year 1, the above ~ethods
for yaar 1 will be used. We feel that native and possibly nonnativ2
fishes may utilize the Price River differently-depending on the flow
.regime for a given year. Therefore, to adequately evaluate the
importance of the Price River, sampling needs to take place under
different flow regimes.

Obiective 2. The Price River will be sampled in conjunction with
post-spawn adult/juvenile sampling trips. Seining will be con~ucted in
low-velocity areas (e.g., side channels, isolated pools, backwaters)
within all the monitoring stations. Light traps will be utilized in the
two stations between Woodside, UT and the confluence with the Green
River (one station will be directly below Woodside and one station will
be directly upstream from and include the confluence). All age-O fish
that can not be identified will be preserved and identified at a later
date.

Obiectivp. 3. The lower Price River will be sampled at least monthly
from April-September (in conjunction with Objectives 1-2). Additional
sampling trips will be completed on the lo~er Price River during 1) the
ascending and descending limb of the spring hydrograph to deterrnin~ pre-
and post-spawn U3e by roainstem adul~ endange~ed fishes and 2) du~ing
larval d~ift periods to determine if larval endangered fishes utilize
the lower Price River. If there is r.o evidence of ~paw~ir.g in the
upstr~am reaches of the Price River, any larval utilization in the lower
Price River will be attributed to drift from Oesc/Grey.

~ctive 4. During sampling trips for Objectives 1-3, basic
physicochemical data (e.g. wa~er temperature, TOS, diss~lved oxygen,
etc.) will be collected. These data, results from Objectives 1-3 (e.g.
distribution and abundance patterns of native and nonnative fishes), and
additional available physical, chemical, historic and present
hydrological (e.g. frequency, virgin flows, overall contribution to the
Green River, etc.), and biological data from the Price River will be
synthesized from U.s. Geological Survey, Utah State Department of
Health, and other available sources to determine the overall
contribution and biological importance of the price River to endangered
fishes and the importance of the Price River to the Green River system.

VII. Task Description (FY 1996):

As outlined above. Each objective represents a task.

VIII. Study Schedule:

FY-96:

Tasks 1-4
A field trip summary report for each sampling trip is due 2
weeks following a trip.
