C\l
co
CO?

NATIONAL PARK SERVICE REPORT

Agency for Administration, Operation, and Maintenance

It does not appear that the Rifle Gap Reservoir could achieve
national, regional, or even State significance recreationally, Its
value in this respect has been appraised as quite definitely local.
It is almost equally certain that as an economic enterprise, it would
offer very little appeal to any commercial agency or private permittee
(concessioner). It is conceivable that county authorities may be suf-
ficiently interested in the recreational development of this project for
local use to assume an appropriate measure of responsibility in connection
with ultimate administration, operation, and maintenance.

Further Study and Planning

In the event that plans of project development and operation are
materially altered, provision should be made for a re-appraisal of
recreational values which may be inherent in the Rifle Gap Reservoir.

If the project is developed as now planned, additional investigation
and study will be required to assure land acquisition and recreational
facilities that will be commensurate with actual need, economically justi-
fied and from which the greatest benefits to the use-area can be derived.

,
,

7
