O~15G6

.

III. Relationship of the Action to Land Use Plans.

Imp lementation of the Trin idad Lake Projec t will influence and con-

tribute to part of the future planning effort for Trinidad, and,

in particular, the river valley corridor. The project, or features

thereof, are currently reflected in planning studies for the city of

Trinidad. With a greater degree of control of the Purgatoire River

more definitive plans can be developed for the rehabilitation and
upgrading of the riverine environment. Current planning reflects a

multipurpose use of the river and contiguous areas. In order to

retain the floadway and desirable characteristics and at the same

time enhance recreational opportunities and aesthetic quality of

the river valley, riverfront parks, open space, and greenbelts are

planned. A reordering of present land use along the river bottom

and adjoining arroyos coupled with improved access to the river front

is suggested. These proposals will make for more campatible adjacent

land uses and will make the river valley a much more useful, pleasant,

and viable asset for the entire community.

I

.

lII-l
