or duration of any possible adverse effect can be only speculative.
There will be small losses of vegetation and corresponding displace-
ment of disturbance of a minimal number of wildlife species. Some
temporary and permanent scarring of the land will occur, although
this alteration will be partially mitigated by dressing and revegeta-
tion. Seasonal drawdowns will expose areas of lake bed, perhaps
detracting from the aesthetic quality of the lake area. There will
be an increase in water loss due to evaporation. Localized short-
and long-term air, water, and noise pollution may occur to a minor
extent. Any possible loss of historic values associated with the
removal of the community of Sopris can be considered as an adverse
impact.

4. ALTERNATIVES TO THE DEVELOPING PROJECT: Alternatives and purposes
considered in developing the current course of action consisted of:
upstream tributary reservoirs; flood plain evacuation; channel rectifica-
tion, levees, and bank stabilization for flood control; water, power and
municipal supply; Sopris Reservoir - Plans 1 and 2 - Flood control and
irrigation; Sopris Reservoir - Flood control only; Sopris Reservoir -
Combination reservoir and channel improvement; Floodway, and Piedmont
Bridge Detention and Retention Reservoirs. Alternatives at this stage
of project construction consist of: completion of the project on a
smaller scale, elimination of the permanent pool, abandonment of the,
project. and postponement.

5.
