<br />o <br />I:- <br />N <br />o <br />:-; <br /> <br />CHAPTER II <br /> <br />UNIT SETTING <br /> <br />.'~"" <br />~. <br /> <br />4.6 miles below the main diversion, water is diverted from the canal <br /> <br />through a siphon under the river to the Orchard Mesa Power Canal to <br /> <br />provide the Orchard Mesa Irrigation District supply. <br /> <br />Near Palisade, <br /> <br />water is delivered from the Government Highline Canal to the privately <br /> <br />owned and operated Price and Stub Ditches. The water that supplies the <br /> <br />Price Ditch passes through a turbine providing hydraulic power to lift <br /> <br />water to the Stub Ditch. <br /> <br />From the Price-Stub Pumping Plant, the Government Highline Canal <br /> <br />continues westward for another 47 mi les to serve 2S, 900 acres of land. <br /> <br />The canal and 76 laterals are federally owned and are operated as part <br /> <br />of the Grand Valley Project. <br /> <br />An additional 32 remaining laterals are <br /> <br />privately owned and maintained. As part of Stage One, 6.8 miles of the <br /> <br />Government Highline Canal have been concrete lined and 34 miles of open <br /> <br />laterals have been consolidated into 29 miles of pipe laterals. <br /> <br />The operation, maintenance, and replacement of the Grand Valley <br /> <br />Project facilities, have been assumed by the Grand Valley Water Users <br /> <br />Association. <br /> <br />Details of the irrigation systems in the Grand Valley are shown in <br /> <br />Table 1. <br /> <br />17 <br />
