Public Involvement

The general public and the water users provided input to Grand

Valley Unit studies primarily through the Grand Valley Salinity Coord-

inating Committee which was established when studies on the Grand Valley

Unit first began. The committee includes representatives of Reclamation

as well as the following agencies and groups:

U.S. Department of

Agriculture--Soil Conservat ion Service, Agricultural Research Service,

and the Agricultural Stablization and Conservation Service; Geological

Survey; Fish and Wildlife Service; Environmental Protection Agency; Upper

Colorado River Commission; Colorado Water Conservat ion Board; Colorado

Division of Wildlife; Colorado State Extension, Tri-River Area; Colorado

State University, Department of Agricultural and Chemical Engineering;

Grand Valley Water Users Association; Grand Valley Irrigation Company;

Grand Junction Drainage District; Mesa County Irrigation District; Mesa

Soil Conservation District; Orchard Mesa Irrigation District, Palisade

Irrigation District; Farmers Home Administration; City-County Development

Department; and Club 20..

Representatives of these agencies and groups

inform their respective organizations of the activities, functions, and

accomplishments of the coordinating committee and serve in an advisory

capacity to Reclamation planners.

To keep them informed about Stage Two planning studies and to

obtain their input to plan formulation, Reclamation has met periodically

with the board of directors of the following water user organizations:

Grand Valley Irrigation Company; Grand Valley Water Users Association,

Grand Junction Drainage District, Mesa County Irrigation District,

Palisade Irrigation District, and the Orchard Mesa Irrigation District.
