o
o
f\:)
~
....
0')

SYLLABUS

1. This section of the AWR Report contains a plan for com-
pleting topographic maps of the area, including .basic control surveys.

2. The AWR basins, as subdivided for mapping purposes,
include all or parts of 1,268 fifteen-minute quadrangles. Approx-
imately 32 per cent of the area is covered by published maps or
currently active proj~cts, leaving 864 quadrangles to be mapped for
complete coverage. The expressions of need for new mapping have
been translated into a priority sequence within a 20-year program,
which is estimated to cost about 19 million dollars. Priorities
for completing basic control surveys were coordinated with the need
,
for these data in the preparation of the new maps, with the cost of
this program estimated at 4.5 million dollars. The cost estimates
are based on records of 1949 costs. The 20-year programa for com-
pleting the mapping and basic control surveys have been subdivided
into a 6-year (Category I) unit and the remainder. . Although the
resultant schedule calls for two thirds of the 20-year program to
be accomplished within the first six years, it. reflects the urgency
of the coordinated requests and has been.restricted within the
limits of realistic accomplishment.

3. It is recommended that the plans presented herein for
the preparation of topographic maps and execution of basic control
surveys be adopted as a framework from which the responsible agen-
cies should schedule their operations in the AWR area.

I
I
I
I
I

i I
,

v
