Rolling Plains Portion ef Red River Drainage Basin Above <br />Head of LaJw TnxOllla. Exclusivo of ',fichita Falls Project <br /> <br />This area reaches from tho HiGh Plains oscalj)ment on the west to <br />the head of Lalce Texoma. It incllldes the Texas portion of the North Fork, <br />Salt Fork, and Prairie DoC T01J1l forks of tho Hod Rivor, lying below the <br />"Cap Roc!,", and the entire tribntary drainage basins of the Peaso, Little <br />Hichita, and Hichita IUvors, oxcltLSive of the project area at Hichita Falls. <br /> <br />Precipitation in this portion of tho Red Rivor Basin ranges from <br />about 23 inches in the ',rost to.35 inches in tho extreme cast. Elevations <br />range from around 700 ff)et in the le,rer reaches to about 3,000 feet near <br />tho High Plains escarpment. Most of tho aroa lies at elevations between <br />1,000 and 2,000 foot. <br /> <br />Irrigation farning is an extremely minor pr::lctice in this o.rea. <br />In 1950, the arm contained 20 farms equipped for irrig[ltion and 674 [lcros <br />of irrigated land (seo Tab'_e 1). Becnuse of fetvorable prc:dpit[ltion, the <br />irrigrltion faaili ties on six of tho fnrms wr,ro not used in 1950. <br /> <br />Both types of w::ltor, surface [lnd ground, ::lre used.
