1("0'-, '
~",I.l

:>

I'

",

found by Conklin i,s represented in run Number 4, where both surface

and ground water are availabel ae IAF/acre each. Supplemental ,water

beyond ehe total of 2.0 AF/acre would add to net income only $2.73/AF

or less.

6. Implications

It is clear that the crucial issue in evaluating the Narrow's

direct irrigation benefies rests on establishing the extent to which

r~~ Number I is representative or runs such as Number 4 reflect the

actual water supply situation. Conklin's findings suggest that Run 4c

is representative of the area overlying the Valley fill aquifer. Jeris

Danielson's letter of February 17 support this, indicating that con-

siderable ground water capacity has been added since the Bureau's water

study was performed. There are lands under the North Sterling ditch

withoue ground water or adequate surface water, and the extent of these

and any others with similar situations should be established.

Finally, the extent to which water markets are satisfyi~g needs

for supplemental water in areas where ground water is not available

needs to be established.'

REFERENCES

1.
