----

--

Unlined irrigation ditches add to the cost of irrigation
labor while seepage losses contribute to salt loading in
the Colorado River.

Water users in the Grand Valley are charged at the average rate of 57.00
per acre regardless of the amount of water used. The cost of irrigating
will vary between management levels because of varying amounts of labor
used by the three management levels. Generally, a lower level manager
will use more water and require more labor time per acre because of
inefficient application of water and/or an inefficient system. Current
labor cost (1976 prices) of irrigating at the three management levels
will vary as presented in the fOllowing tabulation.

1670

21

--

-

-
