INTRODUCTION

',' 1. FIl\RBC Bulletin on drainage area data. The Subcommittee on
HydrolQgy, .Federal Inter-Agency River Ba,sin Committee, issued a ,bulletin, .'
entitled "Inter-Agency Coordination 'of Drainage Area Data", November 1951. :
It was ". . . intended to provide procedures that may be used by Federal
agencies to coordinate drainage area data in the interest of promoting
uniformity, reducing confusion and contradiction of published figures, and
improving the ready availability of drainage area data pertaining to ..'
drainage basins of the United States and its possessions. II The Arl\:ansas."
White-Red Office, Corps of Engineers, Southwestern Division, Tulsa,
Oklahoma, ,was, designated the "Fie~.d Coordinat, ion Office" for the Arkansas-
.'/hite-Red River Basins. Underl'Tabulation of, Data", Appendix F,the;",
report states, in part ". .. The ultimate step in recording and dissemi-,
nating drainage area data would probably be a report, complete for a major
river basin and. coordinated, among ,all interested agencies, similar to that,
entitled, 'Drainage Area Data - Arkansas and White River Ba,sins'; published
by the Corps of Engineers, Southwestern Division, Dallas, ,Texas, in', "
December 1948". The FIARBC pulletin contains, among, other items, a ,
standard method of determini,ng,.drainage ,areas, a ,discussion of teChnical':
problems, including noncontributing ,'areas,. instructions for ,planimetric ,:' .
"IOrk, and procedures for rellisions of"drainage 'area data. '" '
eight states. The CorJ.s of Engineers, U. S. Army, is chairman agency., ".,
3.,." ,Revisions in prior published paIllPhlets. The principal revisions
incorporated in. this report are the segration of noncontributing and con-"
tributing areas in the Arkansas and White River Bas~ns; the preparation '
of a revised format tabulation to facilit, ate the "taking off" of noncon-
tributing and contributing drainage area data between ,points of determina-
tions; and revisions to take into account recent surveys and maps, new
drainage area determinations made since publication of last paraphlets at
such points as newly established gaging stations, dam sites and similar
points; additive errors and river mileages. Detailed review of prior
drainage boundary delineations were not made. Compilation of available
noncontributing boundary delineations for the Arkansas River Basin has
been accomplished as supplemental data for this report. Revisions were
made only ~men there appeared to be significant discrepancies in prior
published drainage areas. In determination of what constituted "Signifi-
cant discrepancies" consideration was given to difference in accuracy of
