<br />Attbe beginning of water year 1987, Lake Mead, impounded
<br />by Hoover Dam, bad a water surface elevation of 1,209 feet
<br />and an active storage of 24,220,000 acre-feel. During tbe
<br />winter months, tbe water level gradually rose to 1,211 feet near
<br />the middle of February 1987, By the end of May tbe water level
<br />had gradually declined to elevation 1206 feel. During the high
<br />ioflowconditions of June and July, Lake Mead reacbed a high
<br />elevation of 1,208 feet in the last week of July, with a active
<br />storage of 24,066,000 acre-feel.

<br />During tbe water year, releases were made to meet
<br />downstream waler use requirements in the United States and
<br />Mexico, llood control requirements, programmed levcls of
<br />Lakes Mobave and Havasu, and transit losses which include
<br />

<br />through Hoover Dam during water year 1987 was 13,140,000
<br />acre-feel. All of that amount passed througb tbe turbines for
<br />power production, In addition, 180,000 acre-feet were
<br />diverted from Lake Mead by the Projecl. At the end of tbe
<br />water year, Lake Mead bad a water surface elevation of 1,210
<br />feet and an active storage of 24,365,000 acre-feel whicb
<br />rellects an increase in storage during the water year of 145,000
<br />acre-feet, On Septembcr 30, 1987, the active storage of Lake
<br />Mead was 1,255,000 acre-feet greater than the active storage
<br />in Lake Powell,
