Wa't_er Conservation _Board <br /> <br />Local people used the rese:cvoir for recreation during <br /> <br />times when there was water. In 1949 there was plenty and they <br /> <br />persuaded the Game and Fish Depar-tmen-t to s-tock i-to The fish did <br />I <br />I <br />very well, but they ran out of water in August 1952. A~ain in <br /> <br />1957 and 1958 the conse:cvat:Lon pool was nearly full. In May 1958 <br /> <br />the Game and Fish Dc-"partment yielded agains't ,their be'tter judgment <br /> <br />and planted 1,000,000 Nall-Eye fingerling. After one year of <br /> <br />gro\vth the fish were 10-16 inches long. Needless to say, the <br /> <br />sportsmen and businessmen were disappointed in September 1959 when <br /> <br />the reservoir was dJ7ained. <br /> <br />The local demands for a pe:cmanent pool sparl,ed an inves- <br /> <br />5 <br />tigat.ion by the staff of the Colorado Nater Conservation Board. <br /> <br />5'fhe Colorado Nater Conserva'tion Board is crea'.:ed by statute "To <br />promote the conservation of 'the "'a'ter.... to secure the, greatest <br />utilization of such waters and utmost prevention of floods..." <br />Its Board has nine members (\"110 are no'.: compensated), from <br />various geographical areas, appointed by the Governor and four <br />ex--officio members - na-tural resou:cces coo:cdinal:or, a'ttorney <br />general, stat:e engineer and Jche direct.or of the said boa:cd~ It <br />appoints ~ director to be the chief administrator and employs a <br /> <br />~-'__.r::.C .L_ ~___~.C~._._ .:.J....~ ;'J...J_~ ~~ <br />b~aJ.~ ~v ~C~LUkll' ~~a UU~LCQ. <br /> <br />-6- <br />
