01'\53 .
~e Water Quality Management Plan for- the South Platte River, conducted

pursuant to Section 303(e) of the FWPCA evaluated the relative

-

significance of the various point and non-point sources of pollution.

,-
, '.'

This report indicated that non-point urban runoff was a relatively

insignificant source of pollution in the basin. Control of such

sources was given a low priority. There was no basis for concluding

that significant improvement would occur in the future, and no such.

~

conclusion was made.

Agricultural sources were also evaluated in the above referenced

report. It was noted that all of the large confined animal feeding

-..

operations have implemented control measures in accordance with State

regulations. Smaller operations were found to be locally important

sources and given high priority of control. Since then, the State

bas promulgated regulations requiring that the runoff originating

;
~

~rom a lO year, 24 hour storm be retained. This is currently being

implemented. Therefore, improvement can be expected due to the

elimination of these agricultural sources.

Many of the cOlIDDunities have completed or are developing "Facilities

Plans," pursuant to Section 201 of the FWPCA. Some are currently

..

being implemented. While these will result in improvements of certain

aspects of water quality, no significant reductions in nutrient levels

,
I

were foreseen.

,.

f
i.-..

6

r-

.
