<br />At the request of the Executive Subcommittee", th" Phreatophyte
<br />Subcommittee has prepared the following progrllmfor its guidance
<br />during calendar years 19.68 and 19.69..

<br />OBJECTIVES
<br />
<br />The, primary objective of the Phreatophyte ,S,ttbco,mmittee is to stim-
<br />ulate programs to produce beneficial results in the management of
<br />phreatophyte and riparian areas. These programs should increase
<br />water yield and improve the si te by, increasing the,percentage o.f
<br />beneficial vegetation, reducing flood's'; iiriproving'water quality,
<br />improving fish and wildlife habitat, and allowing "qevelopment of
<br />recreational, and/or other facilit,ies.,The net benefits from any,
<br />program of management must consider' all of these e'ffects,,' It is,
<br />therefore, the ultimate objective of th~ PhreatophyteSubcommittee
<br />to gather and disseminate information and to guide and assist'
<br />member agencieS in lines,Qf endeavor which will lead to proper
<br />land management of phreatophyte area~.
