Game fish
species in this area include
kokanee salmon and
rainbow, brown, and lake
trout. Prior to enlargement,
Turquoise Lake supported
9,500 man-days of fishing
annually. Under full project
conditions, the lake
provides about 40,000 man-
days of fishing annually. The
increased fishing activity
requires stocking about 16
Ions of hatchery-reared fish
each year.
The Mt. Elbert conduit can
deliver up to 3.000 gallons
of water per minute to the
Leadville National Fish
Hatchery. Increased fish
production at the hatchery,
made possible by the
increased Quantity and
improved temperature of
the water supply, sUPPorts
an additional 100.000 man-
days of fishing annually.

Pueblo Fish Hatchery

To enhance recreation
and fishing. the Bureau of

.

Reclamation built a $22
million, state-of-the-art cool
and warm~water fish
hatchery just below Pueblo
Dam. It is managed by the
Colorado Division of
Wildlife Resources and
provides significant
capability for the state to
produce a variety of fish
species to stock in its lakes
and rivers. Total fish
production to 1993 was
about 50 million fish
including channel catfish,
saugeye, walleye, wipers,
brown and rainbow trout
and tiger muskie.

Dominant big game
species found on the
eastern slope are deer and
elk. Deer and elk migrate
into the Twin Lakes area
each winter and scatter
throughout the area during
summer. Big and small
game hunting are allowed
in the areas adjacent to
Twin Lakes.

Municipal and
Industrial Use

Water for municipal and
industrial use is delivered
to Colorado Springs and
other municipalities on
