./"
. ...1'....

lJ () u J 8 ;'

.

.

WYOMING: State Natural. Resources Board voted early in February to
hire an engineering firm to .conduct a state-sponsored survey on
water resources of the Colorado River watershed in Wyominl:.

Breck Moran, chief of the,l:ioli:i'<i's l'esouree division, was instructed
to contact competent engineering firms which might make the survey,
an action taken on the recotnmendatiOh of State Engineer L. C. BishOp,
Dean H. T. Person of the University of \.yoming and Moran.

The report, Moran said, would include results of the survey with re-
spect to water for irrigation and for industrial and municipal use,
explaining that the board felt the state should have its own appraisal.
of the water resources of the vast area and the best way to develop
them, both by the Bureau of Reclamation and by small projects
financed by the board.

The waters of the Colorado River watershed area probably were the
least developed of any waters in the state, Moran said, pointing out
that, by Colorado River compacts, Wyoming is entitled to 14 per cent
of the now, and "unless the state of ..yorning uses that water, it
will probably not be able to hold out against lower basin states who
are thirsty for it."

*~.***i,"
