Under <br /> <br /> <br />the Bureau's preferred plan for reduction of salt loadings, approximately 34 <br /> <br /> <br />miles of canals in the Montezuma Valley would be lined to reduce seepage into <br /> <br /> <br />the highly saline soils and rocks. Water savings under the preferred plan could <br /> <br />total at least 12,000 acre-feet per year, but it is not known whether this water <br /> <br /> <br />would be used to irrigate more land or applied to existing irrigated land in the <br /> <br /> <br />Montezuma Valley area.
