The Monfort Company, <br />located near Greeley, is considered to be the <br />largest cattle feeding operation in the United <br />States. Significant items of mineral <br />production include petroleum, natural gas, <br />and coal. <br /> <br />One of the county's oldest and largest <br />manufacturing plants is the Great Western <br />Sugar Company. More recently, Eastman <br />Kodak Company established a major plant in <br />the county. Other industries produce canned <br />food and food products, wheat, packaged <br />meats, prepared animal foods, fertilizers, <br />and farm equipment. <br /> <br />Of particular importa.nce to the three-county <br />area and the communities lying along the <br />Front Range is the tourist industry. These <br />communities serve as gateways to the <br />recreational areas lying directly west in the <br />majestic Rocky Mountains. The Rocky <br />Mountain National Park attracts hundreds of <br />thousands of tourists each year. Estes Park, <br />Grand Lake, Granby, and other communities <br />in the area provide facilities for these <br />tourists. The Colorado-Big Thompson <br />Project, with its reservoirs, provides <br />abundant water-oriented recreation, and the <br />mountain streams of the area are noted for <br />fishing as well as their scenic attractions. <br />Added to the recreational attractions of the <br />mountains west of the three counties are <br />numerous plains lakes which attract visitors <br />from Denver and other local communities. <br />The crux of this recreational picture is that <br />it provides a major impact on the Front <br />Range communities and contributes <br />substantially to the area's economy. <br /> <br />11-11 <br /> <br />
