shutdowns were for the purpose of cleaning certain ~ections of the
aqueduct between Iron Mountain and Ha)'field pumping plants, At
the same time, construction work was completed on the 230-kv switch-
,.ard at Camino in December and repair work was completed on the
\Vest Hoover-Camino 280-kv transmission line in February. The
pumping output averaged seven pumps from July through the mid-
dle of August, eight pumps to the middle of December, three and
one-half pumps to the end of December, seven pumps in January
and eight pumps from February through June, Changes in the
pumping schedule were made either for maintenance purposes or
to conform to demands for water and requirements for storage of
water at Lake Mathews, Major items of maintenance included re-
placing seal rings on units 7,8 and 9 at Intake and Gene plants with
seal rings having better impact and corrosion characteristics; re-
placing the Tobin bronze bolting on the headgates at all plants with
silicon bronze bolting; replacing loose field pole wedges on Intake
T..'nit 2; overhauling Eagle Mountain Unit 1 pump as a part of the
program of overhauling the first three pumps installed at each
plant; replacing ,'.;iped thru~t bearing shoes and a .scored runner
plate on Hayfield Unit 5; wiring new limit controls on head gates at
all plants; and modifying the Eagle Mountain Unit 4 upper guide
bearing to eliminate ail' bubbles in the lubrication oil system.

The operation and maintenance forceo of the five pumping plants,
The labor turtlo\'er was 9 men as compared with 14 in 1959-60
