The
reservoir water surface was lowered to elevation
6,038 feet during the winter of 1975 and spring
of 1976. The actual April-July inflow to Navajo
Reservoir was 496,000 acre-feet, or 67 percent of
the long-time April-July runoff average above
Navajo. The seasonal high occurred in July with
the water surface reaching elevation 6,056 feet
and a live storage of 1,292.'~pO acre-feet. .

Navajo Reservoir is operated under a formal flood
control plan. On March 1, .1976, Navajo Reservoir
had 1,091,000 acre-feet of water in storage. The
April'July inflow forecast on' March 1 was600,000
acre-feel. Based on the March 1 forecast, the cur-
rent flood control diagram allowed the reservoir
to be full, and the scheduled operation of the
reservoir did not include any releases specifically
requi red for flood control. (Chart 5.)

Releases were scheduled to control downstream
flows to the minimum level practicable' in order
to minimize bank erosion.

OUTFLOW

UPPEROwmgUARTIlE \.
",\
.__..,,-./,: ~~...: '1'<.:-:- '~_",'_'-' "~~,,
.- . ~ - '".
