r r' .. ':I~
UU \....L.

DREW, in its publication, '~ir Quality Criteria for Particulate

Matter,'~/ concluded that, 'Under the conditions prevailing in areas

where the studies were conducted, adverse health effects were noted

when the annual geometric mean level of particulate matter exceeded

80 pg/m3. "

Airborne dust could add to the air pollutant problem during con-

struction, but the contractors will be required to take measures to

keep this to a minimum.

Noise levels in the generating station are not expected to be in

excess of any modern generating facility of this type, and measures are

being taken to minimize noise, as discussed in this Statement. Very

little information is available on the noise impact in surrounding

areas, but the isolated location of the plant will prevent noise inr

pact on heavily populated areas.

No conclusion can be reached on possible health effects of radio-

nuclide release from the generating station pending further study of

this g,uestion.

Some g,uestions have been posed about the possibility of leaching

from the ash disposal area into the ground water, and the consequent

hazard if such leaching occurred. This problem has not yet been as-

sessed, but investigations will be conducted to determine if there is

any danger so that preventive action can be taken. The Company will

take whatever action is necessary to prevent adverse effects from this

source.

33
