Or"~.a
U c L _

Plan to Maintain Air QUality

The current plan of the Utah Power & Light Company to maintain air

~uality in the area subject to the emissions from the Huntington Canyon

Plant is:

1. To install a stack tall enough to provide ade~uate dispersion of

flue gases. The height of the stack is presently under study.

2. To install an electrostatic precipitator or wet scrubber for particu-

late removal having a design efficiency of 99.5 percent based on the

sulfur and other conditions applicable.

3. To ut ilize a low- sulfur coal. (average 0.50 percent suLfur). The

average fuel characteristics are shown in the tabLe in the Appendix.

4. To review the avaiLable processes for 802 removal, to perform a

research and development program to speed up the availability of a

feasible process, and to provide space for later addition of an

effective process.

5. To install a boiler which utilizes a tangential firing pattern and

to provide for later addition of other features which may reduce

NOx, such as alternate furnace air inlet locations and overfire

airports to reduce flame temperature.

6, To locate the plant to take advantage of favorable meteorological

conditions as far as possible.

Table 2 presents the current estimate of what the ambient air ~uality

will be under the "Limited Mixing" model conditions (1 hour average)

when following this plan.

16
