Eighteen of the 22 water development investiga-
tions conducted during the past two fiscal years
were concerned with projects to develop water to
meet local needs. The department has reported
upon seven of these investigations in the following
bulletins:

pet Putah Creek Investigation. March 1962

Bulletin No. 99 may be taken as representative
of this group. The bulletin identifies the water
problems of the Upper Putah Cteek basin and ap-
praises various possibilities for the developmcm of
additional surface and gtound water supplies
within the basin. It recommends that local interests
cominue to develop their water resources as fast
as is economically possihle in order ro minimize a

possible loss of rights to appropriate water which
the completion of the Monticello Project could in-
duce.

The department plans to publish reports on these
investigations during the 1962-63 fiscal year.

Representative of such investigations is the
Branscomb Project Investigation, the results of
which will be published as Bulletin No. 92. Engi-
neering and economic studies by the Department
of \Vater Resources show that Branscomb Reser-
voir on the South Fork Eel River would be eco-
nomically justified for development of a water-
associated recreation area. Complete analysis of the
Branscomb Project Investigation, however, would
require the following additional studies:

The Department of Parks and Recreation must
determine whether integration of the project with
rhe adjoining Admiral \Villiam H. Standley State
Park is desirable. Such integr:nion would provide
the park, with \\'3rer-associared recreation oppor-
nmities,

The Department of Fish and Game must deter-
mine whether the project would fulfill its proposed
purpose of fisher)' enhancement,
