The data-collection phase of the
study has begun and will continue until late in 1975 or early 1976. The
study is a cooperative project between the Jefferson County Health De-
partment and the U.S. Geological Survey.

The relationship between waste-water treatment systems and quality of
the ground water will be studied in parts of three communities: Ever-
green Meadows, Herzman Mesa, and Marshdale. Also, information will be
obtained on trace-element and radiochemical concentrations in the ground
water, and seasonal changes in water quality and water levels will be
measured.

Residents may be asked for permission to sample their wells and, in some
cases, for permission to sample septic tanks or aeration systems and
leach fields. The leach fields will be sampled by means of specially
constructed 10-foot observation wells. Knowledge gained from the study
will be useful in planning construction of efficient water systems and
obtaining safe water supplies. The residents of this and similar re-
gions will benefit from the.study and are asked to cooperate with field
workers of the U.S. Geological Survey and the Jefferson County Health
Department.

....,..-..
"':'. -- ;~
:~?':~~~~

.,.:':.::;,:
":'.
