Within one <br />watershed, BLM lands are likely to be intermixed with private and other agency lands, further <br />complicating determinations of salt sources. <br /> <br />In 1977, BLM attempted to estimate the sediment and salt yields from the upper basin States of <br />Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming. This number was roughly 700,000 tons of salt annually. <br />Over half of this yield is contributed from slightly saline soils. No attempt was made to <br />estimate salinity contributions from ground water. Approximately 11,000 tons of salt added to <br />the Colorado River in the upper basin account for 1 mgll increase at Imperial Dam. <br /> <br />8 <br />
