r--
..
C
t"<

c:.

Potential health problems also exist due to mosquito infest-
ation along the river.

(~~1J

The tourist industry, including concessionaires on Bureau of
Land Management property, have been heavily impacted. The high
velocity flow, debris, and bank erosion caused by present releases
of water threaten the safety of vessel traffic and adjoining
shoreline; consequently, the U.S. Coast Guard closed the river
to all navigation from Davis Dam to Blankenship Bend and from
Parker Dam to the Mexican Border. The prohibition of recreational
boating has caused great economic loss throughout the Colorado
basin. Some businesses may never recover.

Pisaster Assistance Centers (DAC's) opened on July 6, 1983 and
were closed on July 12, 1983. Registrations for assistance
in Arizona were 639 and 331 in California. Temporary housing
as of July 12, 1983 was assisting 135 applicants in Arizona and
60 applicants in California. Many secondary homes are damaged;
therefore, the need for temporary housing is low when compared
to the total number of homes damaged.

Due to the nature of the flooding and anticipated duration of
high water for an undetermined period of time, an accurate
assessment of damages cannot be made at this time.

f:I)1
.~'.

5
