An average meeting attendance of 50 to 80
professional federal, state, university, and industry
personnel indicates a good field interest in the proposed
report, "Economic Activity in the United States by Water
Resources Region and Subarea, Historic and Projected,
1929-2020". The report is being prepared by the Office
of Business Economics of the Department of Conunerce and
the Economic Research Service of the Department of Agri-
culture. The purpose of the meetings was to assist in
explaining the concepts and procedures used in preparing
the report and to receive the views and conunents of the
field personnel. Revisions will now be made to incorporate
the new information received with a view toward publishing
the final report early in 1972.

The Council of Representatives in their July 14 meeting
directed the Council to contact the Governors of Iowa,
Kansas, Minnesota, and Wyoming, requesting their views
concerning the establishment of a Missouri River Basin
Commission. Six out of the ten states in the Missouri
River Basin, Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska, Montana,
South Dakota, and North Dakota, have requested the estab-
lishment of a river baBin commission.

A position opening on the WRC staff, as a Senior Staff
Specialist, GS-15, working on the forthcoming WRC National
Water Assessment and other projects was announced by
Director Maughan at the July meeting of the Council of
Representatives. A broad training in economics, engineer-
ing, geography, or related fields, together with a working
knowledge of water and land data and Federal and State
programs for management of water and related land resources
is needed.

::~j.?~
j~~
.:~;;;;:;;~
{~~\
".,,---",.~
/-~.::.~::~

<

"

rl
~~I&~:~~~
~~!~;S~
I

~:~~IJt~
-'..,-.....

;i~!~;
~~?~~:;~~~
.:~;:;;:;-[:.

<:-":'"

<<.i..

'-'.

"
.".",-

..-;'.':' /.-'~
;;:{~,'_.'l
-.:.: ::;,.::.~;.:
f:2fr~~

:.;..- ~ "~.
.:: -~'--'<_"f
j:,'~:-i:';;,_ ;.
;:-::~r;~;
~:(.- -:;;'.: ".'
fr#t;~~~
\f~1?~J;i.'!t;;}~:;itm;~:f,i1.#;~r"~~:-';'~;";'!'it~?,~;~1;~,cI'~:!iJj,~:;, ,f;';;; ~,;/:'t '>';',:;:;:fi},..,-,i';;;::25:r ;;'~::;;0/':.";.'..;:::"~:{;i :::i~":j.{,.:t:Y: :2,1:::
