(:48()

Operation, Maintenance, and Replacement
Annual maintenance costs for canals were estimated based on similar

irrigation canals in Federal irrigation districts. Maintenance of
diversion dams was also based on experienced costs for similar
structures in Federal projects.

Onfann Costs

It was assumed that all "new" water yield from the recharge alternative

would be pumped from the aquifer for irrigation by "new" wells and
pumps, which would be installed by fanTI(~~ers or operators.

0\-'~

The wells and pumps were sized tCY,'Srve 8b~cres, each pumping from
" ",'>
", 'v
a depth of 50 feet. Costs were assemb~d from retail price information

provided by equipment di.st}~utors;~~; well drillers.
<' ~ ~ .

<:'. .v
'/
r-,' :j'
"')~v
An average power cos~r' each acre-foot of water pumped was developed
from current, monthly power rate charges for irrigation energy provided

Power

by electric cooperatives serving the South Platte Valley between Fort

Morgan and Julesburg. The average cost per acre-foot pumping from a
50-foot depth is $3.99 which represents 125 kWh. The total energy
use' for 45,700 acre-feet would be 5,700 MWh/year with a maximum
power demand of 6 MW.
