18

COLORADO RIVER INDIAN RESERVATION - ARIZONA

l\:)
to.)
v)
00

Data available indicates this unit is not a significant oontributor to
the salt prOblem in the Colorado River. Therefore, the USDA study underway
is being performed with irrigation water management as the primary
objective rather than salinity control. It is a USDA Cooperative River
Basin Study carried out under Seo. 6 of Public Law 83-566, at the request
of the Tribal Counoil and the Parker Valley Natural Resouroe Conservation
Distriot.

SCS's basic data oolleotion is progressing on sohedule. The soil survey
is about 15% oomplete. Onfarm water measuring weirs to determine
irrigation effiencies have been installed. ~eirs to measure projeot
spills have been installed at 30 sites.

LITTLE COLORADO RIVER BASIN - ARIZONA AND NEW'MEXICO

This study is also being performed as a USDA Cooperative River Basin
Study under Seo. 6 of Publio Law 83-566, in response to requests from the
Arizona Water Commission, the New Mexioo State Engineer's Offioe, and the
involved Natural Resouroe Conservation Distriots in the Basin. If the
study shows significant potential for salinity oontrol, then a separate
salinity control report will 'be issued by USDA. To date the study shows
that salt loading from range and irrigated land in the Basin is quite
small. The study report is soheduled to be completed in Maroh 1981.

PALO VERDE - CALIFORNIA

No ohange in status.

WPRS has not yet reaohed a deoision on whether to prooeed with a study on
the Palo Verde Unit, pending the oompletion of an EPA-funded 208 water
quality study. SCS's agreement with WPRS is to prooeed with a study when
they initiate theirs.

DIRTY DEVIL RIVER - UTAH

No work has been done on this unit and preparation of a plan of study has
been indefinitely delayed.

LY!!AN - '.iYOMING

Salinity problems and potential solutions were reviewed onsite.
Preliminary evaluation of the problems and the poor potential to arrive
at a viable solution have plaoed this proposed study in a "schedule
delayed" category. Final deoisions as to what oan be done in Big Sandy
need to be reaohed before prooeeding with this study. No aotivity is
antioipated during the next 6 months.

I
.,

HENRY'S FORK - MANILA - WYOMING

This study remains in the "not scheduled" category pending decisions on
the Big Sandy and the Lyman Units.

ROARING FORK - COLORADO

This study remains in the "not scheduled" category.
