16

l\:)
(...J
W
0)

The Coordinating Committee and Technical Review Draft of the Report was
completed and distributed for review and comment in November 1979.
Comments were incorporated into the Interagency Review Draft and the
draft distributed to State and Federal agencies, local landowners, and
interested organizations and individuals on March 14, 1980, for their
review and comment. The Interagency Review period was over on April
28, 1980.

"

"

Interagency Review comments have been incorporated and the final report
is nearly ready for printing. It is anticipated that distribution of the
report can be made by late December 1980.

It is anticipated that in the next 6 months the SCS will be working with
personnel from the State of Wyoming and the WPRS in the formulation of
off-farm alternative plans. SCS will supply pertinent information
developed during their onfarm studies.

McELMO CREEK - COLORADO

Field inventories are generally complete. A determination of wildlife
habitat values using the "HEP" procedures is underway with WPRS
leadership. Sample locations for collecting habitat value information
have been selected. Field data collection will be completed in
November 1980. An inventory of wetlands has been completed.

An inventory of the laterals has been completed. This data is being
analyzed to determine what areas can be supplied with gravity pressure
sufficient to operate sprinkler systems. Preliminary farm data indicates
that the most efficient way to improve onfarm irrigation systems in the
area is to convert them to sprinklers. Development of farm budgets is
underway.

Work in the next six months will include an analysis of the inventory
data. Water and salt budgets will be prepared. The draft study report
is due by September 30, 1981.

PRICE - SAN RAFAEL RIVERS - UTAH

Irrigation field tests were conducted in the late 1979 irrigation season
and during the 1980 irrigation season. A representative cross section of
soils, crops, and irrigation methods has been evaluated by these tests.
Results will be used to verify onfarm irrigation efficiencies for use in
the water budgets. However, intake rates were found to vary from
existing irrigation guide curves for the tested soils.

Electrical conductivity has been measured on the water entering and
leaving a number of irrigated fields. Conductivity increases ranged from
zero to about ten percent as the water flowed across the fields. This
indicates, as expected, that most salt does not come from surface runoff,
but from the water that perCOlates below the root zone and reenters the
drainageways.
