This is done by matching the projected <br />weather type sequences, with similar fragments of the historical record, <br />thus permitting a synthesis of future weather behavior, based upon charac- <br />teristics displayed by similar weather occurrences in past history. <br /> <br />***,~*** <br /> <br />ACTIVITIES IN THE UPPER COLORADO RIVER BASIN <br />E. Department of the Interior <br />Salt Lake City, Utah <br /> <br /> <br />Important progress has been made during the past year in the Bureau <br />of Reclamation's program on the Upper Colorado River Basin. <br /> <br />A summary follows: <br /> <br />1. Construction of Glen Canyon Dam has proceeded steadily, <br />and by November, 23 percent of the work under the $108 million <br />prime contract was completed. <br /> <br /> <br />2. The prime contract for Flaming Gorge Dam awarded in June, <br />1958. Work started on single diversion tunnel and access roads <br />from the new town of Dutch John to the dam site. <br /> <br />3. Work also started at Navajo Dam under prime contract <br />awarded in June 1958. <br /> <br />4. Funds appropriated by Congress for construction on two of <br />the eleven authorized participating projects in western Colorado <br />and in Utah. <br /> <br />5. Definite Plan Reports for the Hammond Project in New Mexico <br />and the Seedskadee Project in Wyoming have been completed. <br /> <br />6. Advanced planning continues on the remaining authorized par- <br />ticipating projects with completion of Definite Plan Reports planned <br />at an orderly schedule. <br /> <br />Construction effort at the Glen Canyon Dam site has been largely <br />heavy excavation. The excavation of the two diversion tunnels is completed, <br />and placing of the concrete lining goes ahead rapidly. Prime contractor has <br />scheduled diversion of river for this coming February, during low flow period <br />of the Colorado. <br /> <br />A pilot plant for heavy media separation of aggregates has been put <br />in operation at the Wahweap gravel source, and a temporary concrete plant <br /> <br />- 17 - <br />
