Havasu Creek was identified as the location with the greatest likelihood <br />of success. The Supai tribe has indicated they are not amenable to having endangered fish in <br />this area. Considering the preferred location of a second spawning population of humpback chub <br />is in the mainstream Colorado River, and that establishment is largely dependent upon warmer <br />water temperatures, success is likely dependant on the temperature control device currently <br />under consideration, and/or implementation of low steady summer flows. Therefore, the <br />available staff and funding resources have been applied to those other items, which are expected <br />to produce tangible benefits for endangered species much more quickly. <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />STATUS OF ELEMENT 4 <br />ONGOING. Efforts related to establishment of a second spawning aggregation of humpback <br />chub are being focused primarily on the assessing the feasibility of a temperature control device <br />and testing of low steady flows, however, funding has also been made available through the <br />adaptive management program to develop a report and schedule describing the steps required to <br />accomplish establishment of a second population of humpback chub in the Colorado River <br />ecosystem.
