.

.

.

0071

SUMMARY SHEETS

Narrows Unit, South Platte Division, Colorado
Missouri River Basin Project

August 1966

LOCATION

Northeastern Colorado along the South Platte River. Irrigable lands
are in Morgan, Logan, Washington, and Sedgwick Counties. Narrows
Dam and nearly all of the reservoir area are in Morgan County. A srr~ll
portiorl of the flood control pool extends into Weld County.

PLAN

New construction for the unit \;ill consist only of the potential Narrows
Dam and Reservoir to serve the functions of irrigation, flood control,
recreation, fish-wildlife enhancement, and improvement of water quality.
Storage water would be released as necessary from the reservoir to
supplement irrigation within the service area, totaling 166,370 acres,
of the Lower South Platte Water Conservancy District. Supplemental
relea.ses will be conveyed downstream in the river channel to the
diversion works of eXisting irrigation systemE. No Federal construc-
tion of irrigation distribution facilities would be involved. Specific
lands and facilities, including the existing Jackson Lake would be
required for recreation and fish and wildlife purposes. Minimum down-
stream flows for water quality control and fish requirements, would be
met by reservoir seepage, c tream accretions, and retJurn flows. Future
control of Bijou Creek floods could be attained by the construction
of diversion facilities and revised reservoir operating criteria.

COSTS

FC<l t lIre

Costs

Narrows Dam and Reservoir
0&11 hous ing . . . . . . .
Permanent operating facilities.
Recreation development ....
Fish and wildlife development .
Jackson Lake rehabilita~ion (dual recreation and.
fish-wildlife)

$56,300,000
19,000
91,000
2,350,000
2,9~5,000
125,000

Total construction cost. . . . . . . . . . . . $61,820,000
