The sub9roup tirst focused on how . block
habitat manaqement ar.a could be developed in each bridge seqment
between Lexinqton and Chapman, HE. This was done by observing
aerial photos and the GIS land resource maps developed by the
Trust. The qroup looked for wet meadow tracts classified on the
GIS land resource maps and simply .elected one to analyze
potential management areas. Based on this approach, . table of
acreaqes were deVeloped that included wet meadows, river channel
. and buffer. For the wet meadow and river channel acreage., II.
break down was made of present lands and those that needed to be
converted. For example, the present channel may be only 600 feet
wide which would equate to approxaately 145 acre. in a two mile
reach ot river. Therefore, to have Dpti1llU1ll roosting width of
1150 feet, 550 feet of channel would n8ed to he developed by
converting islands and weoded floodplain into open channel fer an
increue of approximately 133 acr.. in a two mile reach.
