\,'

,~

2

;c

Attempts were made to be as thorough and comprehensive as possible in compiling
and synthesizing the literature available at the time the project was begun. A
great deal of new information has become available recently, so the compendium
is already out of date. Also, there may be pre-1989 literature which you
believe contains "key" information that was overlooked and should be added to
the compendium. We would appreciate your assistance in helping us to identify
any and all information you believe should be included in the compendium.

ilj
.~,

In our search for "key" information, we tried to report the facts,
relationships, hypotheses, theories, and opinions of the authors as stated.
When this project began, we had anticipated that there would be conflicting
opinions among researchers as to what was important to the fish, and what
actions should be taken to recover the fish. Our intention was to restate the
findings or hypotheses of investigators to help us identify subject areas where
consensus occurred vs. areas where further study was needed. If statements are
contained within the compendium that do not accurately reflect the views of
those investigators cited, please advise us so that we may make appropriate
corrections.

Development of this document has been difficult. With your assistance, we
believe the compendium will become a valuable reference. We would like to
bring it up ~o date periodically and would appreciate any suggestions that you
might have to improve the format, content, accuracy, and utility. If
interested, please provide comments by November 30, 1990. We hope this will
give everyone ample time to review the compendium and offer suggestions.

C077ut# (L fJ~l{)
n'l150~a!d C.
