~
I

South Platte River flood waters cover a road east of Sterling. Such flooding would be reduced by the Narrows Unit.

Direct, indirect, and public irrigation benefits from
the Narrows Unit are estimated to total $6 million
annually.

M&I-Brush, Fort Morgan,' and Sterling, all
located within the, Lower South Platte Water
Conservancy District, have expressed interest in'
obtaining Narrows water. In addition, ,Great
Western Sugar and Sterling Beef have also asked
for water.

Communities within the Central Colorado Water
Conservancy District requesting water include
Fort Lupton, LaSalle, Wiggins, Brighton, and
Keenesburg.

Together these requests total 21,850 acre-feet or 17
percent of the average annual marketable supply.
Annual benefits from Narrows M&I water are
estimated at $8.2 million annually.

Flood control-The Corps of Engineers
reevaluated the annual flood control benefits
during 1982. As a result, the Bureau has
eliminated the joint use pool and reduced the
single purpose flood control pool to 233,000 acre-

feet. The Bureau has estimated that a flood event
having a recurrence interval of once every 25 years
would have a peak discharge of approximately
25,000 fi3/S.

Operation of Narrows Dam would also reduce
damages from larger floods as the peaks would be
reduced. An average of $1.1 million in flood
damages would be prevented each year by
Narrows Reservoir.

Recreation-The National Park Service estimates
that an average of 1.19 million recreation days will
be realized at Narrows Reservoir each year. All
recreation facilities would be constructed and
available for use during the first year of project
operation. The Colorado Division of Parks and
Outdoor Recreation will manage the recreation
facilities and lands.

Annual recreation benefits are expected to total
more than $5.2 million.

Fish and Wildlife-Narrows Reservoir will sup-
port large populations of walleye, northern pike,
largemouth bass, white bass, crappies, sunfish,
