Annual Load Factor - 57.2 percent

The selection of the 250,000 I<W capacity for the Cache la PoudJe
Powerplant, the principal pmTer fea.ture, was based upon the predicted
future need of a large peaking inste.1le.tion operating at low load
factor. The location appears to be ideal for this function because
of high head available and potentia], for regulation of the water
supply above the powerplant at Idylwilde Reservoir.

The Idylwilde Powerplant capacity (24,000 I<W) was set on the
assumption that approximately a 20 percent load factor wouJ.d be
desirable for the inste.1lation.

It will be necessary to maintain a nearly constant flOlf in the
reach of the river below Idylwilde Powerplant for fishery purposes
and to minimize capacity requirements for the Elkhorn conduit. Thus
Kinnik1nick Afterbay is required. Except during periods of power
spill, maximum IG.nnikinick releases will be 375 cfs. The a.fterbay
active capacity of 850 acre-feet wouJ.d permit operations at the
design load factor during a weekly period without fluctuating the
stream below.

38

.
