Total

525,000 13.1'
20,000 af

18,000 af

47 ,00013.1'

610,000 13.1'

.

Future (without Poudre Unit)--(l) The 610,000 acre-feet
depletion was again assumed representative of a year of adequate
water supply. (2) Average unavoidable future basin outfiow was
estimated to be 80,000 acre-feet, considering effects of Colorado-
Big Thompson future return fiws and increased Greeley return fiOlfS.
Thus 690,000 acre-feet annual supply wouJ.d be required under future
conditions. (80,000 + 610,000 = 690,000)

It is evident that the above evaluations are simplified. They
are intended to ShOll only the years and the relative magnitude of
the irrigation shortages occurring in the basin. However, a rough
check on the depletion figure can be obtained:

Consumptive use Area

Irrigated lands (242,000 acres 2.17 at/a)
MuniCipalities (10,000 acres, 2 af/a)
Plains reservoir losses -(10,000 acres,
1.8 af/a)
Depletion not accounted for (seepage areas,
water plants, etc.)

Est. Annual C, U.

.

It is anticipated the limited amount of irrigation supply
developed by the project will be delivered to individual farms and
ditches experiencing 'frequent shortages. Detailed studies of farm
shortages will be required during feasibility investigation to
determine the delivery pattern of the new supply.

Hydrologic Studies for the Plan of Development

The plan of development for the unit encompasses additional
storage and regulation of the available water supply in three broad
categories: (a) storage of the unappropriated surplus f'lows; (b)
provide storage in Tinmath and Fossil Creek Reservoirs to make
maximum use of the return f'lws occurring below Grey Mountain
Reservoir; (c) savings realized by the plains reservoir consolidation,
capacity replacement, and transfer.

Utilization of' Surplus Flows

The hydrology studies assUll1e that with construction of the
Cache la Poudre Unit, a water storage right wouJ.d be filed to
enable all unappropriated surplus f'lows to be stored in the unit

.

24
