.

.

.

Kinnikinick Afterbay and Dam

This feature would function as an afterbay to regu1ate the
fluctuating power releases passing through I~lwilde Powerplant.
The concrete ogee-type overflow dam. would have a arest length of
300 feet and a height above stream bed of 55 feet. The aapacity of
the reservoir would be about 1,000 aare-feet.

Rustic Diversion Dam

Releases from Kinnikinick Afterbay with a mini= of fluctu-
ation would flow downstream approximately eight miles to the Rustic
Diversion Dam. This structure would serve to divert water from. the
stream channel into Elkhorn Conduit. Rustic Diversion Dam would
have an ogee crest at about elevation 6,930, 15 feet above the
present stream bed; a river outlet through a sluice gate, a down-
stream river gage and headworks with measuring device for the
Elkhorn Conduit. An earth wing dike is required on the right
abutment.

Elkhorn Conduit

This structure would convey water from Rustic Diversion Dam
to Cache la Poudre Forebay. It would consist of two free-flow
tunnel sections each 4-1/2 miles long, separated by a short siphon
across Elkhorn Creek; a 9,OOO-foot 1.ong cut and cover section; and
a 4,70o-foot long high-head siphon aoross Hewlett Guloh. The conduit
would have a maximum capacity of 300 cfs with an average operation of
about 250 cfs. More detailed studies may indicate that a diversion
dam to divert flows from Elkhorn Creek would be feasible.

Cache la Poudre Forebay and Dam

The site of the proposed forebay is about 15 airline miles
northwest of Fort Collins, Colorado. It is about 2 miles north
and over 1,000 feet above "Columbine," a community situated in the
Poudre River Canyon. The dam structure would be earth and rock-
fill, having a crest length of approximately 750 feet and height
above stream bed of 150 feet. A dike 70 feet in height with a
crest length of 450 feet situated northwest of the main dam would
aJ.so be required. The arest elevation of both the dam and dike
would be 6,810 feet. Spillway requirements are small and will be
afforded from the inlet canaJ..

The forebay would have an active capacity of 4,600 acre-feet.
Dead storage space would be about Boo acre-feet. The normal water
surface area is 95 acres and minimum water surface area is 30 acres.

6
