This belt extends from a few miles south of <br />Bouse Wash southerly to Tyson Wash. <br />Salinity as measured in the deep zone by four wells ranged from <br />650 mg/L to 1,910 mg/L. The quality is variable and the water <br />quality in the deep zone as delineated by the Geolgical Survey is <br />variable and measured from 650 to 1,920 mg/L at the four well sites. <br />The salinity is slightly higher than in the principal zone and much <br />like the upper zone. <br />Well water samples having a TDS of over 4,000 mg/L have a <br />combined sodium and chloride ion content of from 50 to 60 percent, in <br />contrast to Colorado River water, which has approximately 28 per- <br />cent. Such a composition is attributed to the alteration of Colorado <br />River water through concentration by evaporation of ponded surface <br />water and evapotranspiration, precipitation of insoluble calcium and <br />magnesium carbonates, and reduction of sulfate.
