M?5'77

.

which plunges gradually eastward,(5) Mesa Verde Group sediments are
exposed north and south of the White River, dipping away from the
town. This places Rangely very near the recharge areas for these
potential aquifers, decreasing the likelihood of obtaining an adequate
water supply from a well within several mi les of the town 1 imits.
Local drillers Indicate that these strata contain very little water
and that y I e 1 ds of we 11 s wh I ch have been completed are less than 5
gallons per minute (0.3 L/s).(11,18) If municipal wells were
constructed to obtain water from the Mesa Verde Group, a minimum of 3
miles (4,8 km) of pi pel I ne would be requl red. The cost for th i s
alternative has been roughly estimated at $12 million, The
assunptions made were that eighty-five wells would be required and
that the yield per well would be 20 gallons per minute (1,2 Lis). The
total yield would be 4 cfs or 2900 AF per year (0,1 m3/s or 3.5x105m3)
per year, On this basis this alternative was not considered further
as a viable alternative.

2,2 ALTERNATIVE A: Taylor Draw Dam E1. 5329 (1524 m)
(Applicants' Preferred)

2.2.1 Location and General Description

2,2.1.1 The proposed Taylor Draw Dam would be located on the White
River approximately five miles (8 km) northeast of Rangely, Colorado
In Section 27, Township 2 North, Range 101 West, of the 5th Principal
Meridian. The dam would be located about 300 feet (91 m) upstream
from the confluence of Taylor Draw with the White River. The project
Is located In the northwest corner of Rio Blanco County in State of
Colorado Planning and Management Region 11.

2,2.1,2 The reservoir capacity is 13,800 acre-feet (AF) (17x105m3) at
the nonna1 high water line, elevation 5317.5 feet MSL (1521 m). The
surface area of the reservoir at high water is about 515 acres (249
ha). A proposed dead pool storage vo1une of 2100 acre-feet
(2.59x105m3) would Inundate approximately 257 acres (104 ha) at
elevation 5290 feet MSL (1612 m),

11
