The questions and o~r comments follow: <br /> <br />1. For state and fedel'al agencies, what is the le1'Oal authority of the <br /> <br />present main stem system operation for the following purposes? <br />(a) Flood Control (e) ~:&I Hater Supply <br />(b) Irrigation ( f) Recreation <br />(c) Power (g) Fish & Wildlife <br />(d) Nav:i,gat.ion (h) Hater Quality <br /> FEDERAL <br />The Missouri River Basin Project (now the Pick-Slos,n l.jissouri Bacin <br /> <br />Program) was authorized by the Flood Control Act of 191f4 (513 Stat. 8137). <br /> <br />It was recomrl'ended to Consress as a "comprehensive plan for the highest <br /> <br />beneficial use of the waters of the ffiissouri Rivei1 basin" and provided <br /> <br />for "flood control, navigation, irrigation, po'.er development, domestic <br /> <br />and industrial water supplies, silt control, recreational use of waters, <br /> <br />conservation of fish and wildlife, and pollution abatement," and for <br /> <br />assistance "in the restoration and maintenance of ground water levels <br /> <br />and inland lakes."
