Suggest to the public a review process to be applied to public <br /> <br />lands to identify potential wilderness areas as required by section 603 of <br /> <br />the FLPMA (BLM Organic Act); <br /> <br />2. Suggest to the public a wilderness policy for the public lands <br /> <br />under administration of the BL~; and <br /> <br />3. Inform the public of interim management practices and policies <br /> <br />to protect wilderness resource while they are being considered for inclusion <br /> <br />in the ~ational Wilderness System. <br /> <br />This package contains the BL~ proposal for a wilderness review policy and <br /> <br />procedure as required by the FLPMA. <br /> <br />, . <br /> <br />In order to carry out this responsibility, the RLM has prepared this <br /> <br />, <br />,. <br /> <br />proposal for your review and comment. Your views are needed before this <br /> <br />policy and these procedures are finalized. Onlv through a cooperative <br /> <br />effort can a policy and procedure be. developed that we all understand. <br /> <br />To be most useful, your comments should be as specific as possible. You <br /> <br />are encouraged to submit written comments to the Director (370), Bureau of <br /> <br />Land Management, Washington, D.C. 20240, within the 60 days provided for <br /> <br />public comment. At a later date, the public will be provided an opportunity <br /> <br />to comment on areas identified for wilderness study. We are requesting your <br /> <br />views at this time only on the following procedures the BL~ plans to use in <br /> <br />evaluating areas for their wilderness potential. <br /> <br />II.
